Founded in 1990 by Margaret O'Leary, our eponymous clothing brand has become a beloved symbol of timeless style and impeccable craftwork. What began with a single handloom in a San Francisco bedroom has grown into a beloved brand, still independent, still personal. We envision a future where our collections continue to evolve alongside those who wear them, offering lasting quality, irresistible texture, and a sense of creative joy.
While the first Margaret O’Leary store opened in 1994 on Claude Lane in San Francisco’s Union Square, there are now 13 locations across the United States, offering the brand’s own timeless classics and seasonal must-haves, as well as a curated assortment of designer goods from around the world.
Margaret O’Leary is a heritage-driven, employee-owned knitwear house, crafting real clothing for real lives. Rooted in Irish knitwear tradition and San Francisco’s independent spirit, we create timeless, wearable knitwear and wardrobe staples built with a mastery of texture, fit, and care.

For over 30 years, we have remained hands-on and independent. We choose not to mass produce, offering small-batch, heirloom-quality garments that bring warmth, confidence, and everyday joy.
